Ivan France

Ivan’s passion for homes started early—back in 5th grade, sketching house plans in his best friend’s basement while blasting Pantera and dreaming of becoming an architect. A native Oregonian with a knack for hand drawing, he never imagined how much he’d grow to love the digital side of design, especially working in 3D CAD.

“I love a set of boundaries, guidelines, rules—lot size, budget, or code constraints—and then figuring out the solution. It’s like a puzzle game,” Ivan adds.

His career began as an assistant superintendent on a 122-home subdivision, and less than a year later, he stepped up to lead the job as superintendent. Since then, Ivan has worn many hats across land development and residential construction—from framing, siding, painting, and finish carpentry to cabinetry, drywall and more. This firsthand experience gives him a deep understanding of how things go together—and confidence in how to design them right the first time.

“I started at the bottom, learned, and did the things that are important to know for my role,” he added. “School would not have given me this same understanding of how things work.”

Ivan joined Mountainwood Homes in 2012 and holds the title of the company’s longest-tenured employee. He’s had many roles over the years, but his current CAD Designer & Integrator position is his favorite. It blends his love for creativity, problem-solving, and construction knowledge. He’s known as a MacGyver-type—someone who can figure anything out, and someone you want on your team.

He’s a fan favorite, and clients appreciate Ivan’s creativity, patience, and no-nonsense approach. He keeps it real, tells it like it is, and is always striving to make the next project better than the last. His high standards and willingness to do whatever it takes have helped shape Mountainwood into what it is today.

Outside of work, you’ll find Ivan playing pool, golf, darts, or cornhole—or meticulously detailing his truck. He enjoys road-tripping to visit his “mini-me” daughter, Sophie, who lives in Montana. In 2024, Ivan married Alicia DeCosta, Mountainwood’s Director of Marketing. Together, they love traveling, taking whiskey walks through their neighborhood, and designing their dream home.
