About

Darby dreamed of becoming a fashion designer, inspired by the vibrant outfits worn by characters like Punky Brewster and Jem on her favorite childhood shows. However, after realizing the extent of sewing involved, she pivoted during her sophomore year and chose Interior Design instead of Fashion Design. She graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. in Interior Design.

Before joining Mountainwood Homes, she worked in design studios for production builders for 18 years, where she honed her ability to quickly identify design styles and recommend products that fit both visual appeal and practical use. Her knowledge of materials—flooring, tile, carpet, countertops—and her attention to detail are key assets in guiding clients through the selection process.

She brought her extensive product knowledge and vendor relationships to Mountainwood Homes in 2020, reconnecting with many teammates she used to work with at past workplaces.

“The best part about working here is the family-like culture of the team and, of course, meeting and assisting a variety of clients for their projects.”

“I love the design concept collaboration at the start of the process because we get to know the clients so well and are really able to identify their project challenges, find solutions, and create a beautiful and highly functional design with them that we get to expand upon during the selection process,” she adds.

Her success stems from her organizational skills and time management. Whether color-coding her calendar, organizing files, or managing her time, Darby’s efficient style keeps the momentum going and projects on schedule.

“Design is all about the details, and it’s crucial to set aside the time to ensure everything is handled,” she shares.

Darby is committed to ensuring that each project is stylish and aligns with the client’s lifestyle and goals. She believes the best-fit clients trust the process and value the team’s guidance.

Outside of work, Darby is busy with her husband, four kids, and three rescue animals (a dog, cat, and bunny) and juggling all their activities. Exploring new restaurants is a favorite pastime, especially when it involves ordering all the things – drinks, food, and dessert! Weekend getaways to Bend or Manzanita are always a highlight; at home, there’s always a remodeling or yard project to tackle.
